I went and checked out the newly opened book store at Berjaya Times Square - Borders. The biggest branch in the world of Borders book store was opened here and franchised by Berjaya Groups. So, I went and checked it out when I dropped by Berjaya Times Square for a movie yesterday. It is bigger than MPH in One Utama. It is more spacious and has more seats for visitors to sit down and review the books. There are sofas and benches at every corner of every section.
The books range are more and more classifications with the availability of Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia’s range of books at one section. They also have a big section of Music with cd player set with few latest songs or recommended songs for the customer to review. Whilst the Movie section has quite a wide range of DVDs and VCDs. Each floor has more than one information counter where the customer can ask for assistance with the products. The most crowded section is the Magazine corner, followed by the kids section. There are lots of people reviewing (or was it reading?) the magz. In the kids section, the parents were accompanying their kids reading books at few kids tables and seats provided at one corner.
Other than that, they have Starbucks at the back of it and World of Feng Shui selling the feng shui’s books and stuffs. With the opening of Borders book store at Berjaya Times Square, more people are visiting it already, compare to previously which is kinda quiet.
Somehow, the arrangement of books in Borders are kinda different from MPH. In MPH, they locate together some publisher books like Wrox for example, into one rack. But in Borders, they arrange the books according to the classification. I am only refering to the computer books section, at particular the programming classification. So, it will be hard if you are looking for few books from one publisher with different title/classification. So, when looking at the computer books section, the books arrangement will looked messy and is a real pain in your eyes when you are looking for specific books under one big classification - for example Programming books.
Oh ya, they have few baskets for customer to put books, cds and products they are going to purchase, for easy carriage. Very nice. Few stations of computers were set up to browse the floor directory and search for books by keywords. The computers are new and smooth, but no security as the running application to browse the books and floor directory was not locked and the users could just play with the windows or shut down the PC. I tried to search for smart cards books and the search results turn out to be no stock for all the resulted books. They have this function next to unavailable stock products to allow the customer to pre-order it.

How many floors are there at Berjaya’s Borders??
I’ve only been to Queensbay Mall’s Borders and I simply love it there! Too bad there aren’t many discounts but still, I could just spend the whole day there. I like the way they arrange the books and the area is just spacious. No need to squeeze through with anyone else!

Haha, i found it too.. while searching for information on Borders. Uh.. i love borders too, only been there once though. It’s too far away from home plus it’s always jam around that area.
MPH wraps up all the book nowadays, the good ones at least. Whether there’s a place to sit doesn’t matter if i can’t even open them books. LOL
BYE!

usws: Wa lauu… 2005 post and you came through it in 2007. Unbelievable. Thank you for commenting.
As for MPH, I remember that we can ask them to unwrap the books if we wanted to preview them first. A friend of mine whom is a member always did that and we took those books to the member’s lounge for a preview. After which, we return them back to the counter.

Borders sounds great to me, as im searching some books n stuffs that I haven’t found them in MPH, Kino of Popular, by the way, how’s the price of books in Borders?

Yeah, these bookstores just filling up each other’s lack of stuffs.
As for pricing, I am not really sure though, but more or less the same though. What most of us like at Borders is the the 3 books promotion at a price.
